INTRODUCTION
 
The NC1701 is a 32-bit enhanced vehicle communications microcontroller from Nebula Systems. It supports a wide range of On-Board Diagnostic communication standards together with many Telematic specific features like VIN reading and ignition detection.
When connected to a Mobile Communications enabled client (i.e. Telematic GSM black box) that can provide access to Nebula Systems MECH5 platform, the NC1701 can access a vast range of OEM vehicle data and services

OVERVIEW

The NC1701 is an advanced vehicle diagnostics processor which supports two simultaneous CAN interfaces, four ISO lines, a full duplex UART, eleven ADC inputs and sixteen multi-purpose GPIO pins

KEY FEATURES

The NC1701 chip has features that work offline (no need to connect to the cloud at all), others that require a one-time connection only, and others that require connectivity during the execution

OFF LINE FEATURES

Features that DO NOT require cloud connectivity include:

  • OEM Enhanced Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) reading
  • OBD-II Data Trouble Codes (DTC) reading
  • OBD-II Standard Parameters (PIDs) reading
  • OEM Enhanced Parameter (PIDs) reading using a Config File*
  • Advanced Ignition Status Sense
  • Advanced Low Power and Wake Up modes
  • Can manage different vehicle architectures (up to 5 CAN & 4 ISO transceivers)
  • Fully compatible with MECH5/X-LINK software
* This is only possible after a valid Config File for the specific vehicle has been downloaded from Nebula’s cloud, in a one-time operation

ONLINE FEATURES

Features that DO require cloud connectivity include:

  • OEM Data Trouble Codes (DTC) reading
  • Downloading and Updating a vehicle Configuration File
  • Live Firmware updates

All communications with the MECH5 cloud are encrypted and secure

EMBEDDING AND TALKING TO THE NC1701

  • All communications with the MECH5 cloud are encrypted, secure and done using APIs
  • Access to these APIs is only granted using unique Customer IDs and self-generated API Keys
  • Nebula Systems does not have access to these keys and cannot retrieve them.
  • Each Customer has a unique profile so that different APIs can be enabled or disabled for security or control purposes
